Memorizing Experience

Most of us know the type that catches our attention,

Some prefer tall dark and handsome bad boys---a few I could mention.

Whether in High School or college,

He made our hearts palpitate—and

sometimes we giggled---this is common knowledge.

Did yours look like Channing Tatum or Tom Selleck?

Whomever---your heart yearned for--- he was Angelic.

Was it his long legs, his biceps or his eyes that shines with admiration?

Or maybe his lips so full and masterful ---and you tasted them---with great appreciation.

Did he call you after your first date?

Or did you sit by the phone and wait?

Inconsideration has spread through our Nation,

The outbreak is epidemic---no cause for a celebration.

If this sounds like you,

Well---girlfriend this is what I do.

When a guy says---I will call you,

I say---I’m never home to answer---I coo.

So softly I say bye-bye,

I might see you on the fly.

If you want to see me---you will,

Until then fellow---you can just chill.

So many guys--- on campus,

Handsome---not doing tricks like a grampus.

Don’t give them the chance to think you are needy,

Nor, for a relationship---you are greedy.

Just be yourself and have fun,

And when it is over---it is simply done.

This is called experience---we all need it so,

Without it---you might settle for an unlovable beau.

Angel Feather

Walking home late one night,

I witnessed a wondrous sight.

As a long white fluffy feather fell----in the moonlight,

I picked it up, and stardust danced and sparkled bright.

It felt alive within my hand,

It is difficult to believe it happened to me----a mortal woman.

I heard there were a lucky few,

That had found a feather---too.

Believe it or not---it is the truth I tell,

For with this feather---I made people well.

Although this happened so long ago---my feather

is still white as snow and strong as leather,

Yes---my friends it is my Angel Feather.

A Little Girl’s Prayer

I thank you Dear God for making my Grandmother---I call her Mimi.

Her soft voice sings me to sleep with a prayer “I pray the Lord my Soul to keep”

She said it is much better to talk to you than count all those sheep.

My Mimi takes me to school each morning as Mama nurses my baby brother,

Thank you---God for sending him---just for us. But Lord---I don’t need another.

He cries too much because he is a baby my Mimi said,

And my mercy he has no hair on his tiny head.

His blue eyes stares and he smiles so sweetly at me,

Mama said he cannot focus yet---but I know he can see.

After school--- I looked into his bed to see if he is asleep,

And I pray to the Lord again for my brother’s soul to keep.

When we grow up a good sister I will be to him,

Yes, I love my little brother named---Jim.

I will teach him---the ABC’s,

And to count 1,2,3’s.

I will show him how to climb a tree,

And carefully watch a honey bee.

And to make a Valentine,

And draw a card at Christmas time.

To sing Jingle Bells, in our red hoods,

And sing “Over the River and through the Woods.”

I will teach Jim how to make a snowman stand,

And put a glove on the snowman’s short stick hand.

I will choose his first girlfriend for him.

Dear God I am so tired now---I will just say Amen for Jim.

And Lord thank you too, for always being here,

So very near. Amen
